The SDSU School of Public Affairs will host the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI) UrbanPlan simulation for the first time on March 13, 2026. UrbanPlan is a nationally recognized, hands-on learning experience that immerses students in the real-world challenges of urban development, land use, and community decision-making.

UrbanPlan has been used by universities across the country, including Georgia Tech, Georgetown University, DePaul University, San José State University, NC State, and others,  to help students build practical skills in collaboration, negotiation, financial analysis, and public presentation. Bringing this program to SDSU marks an important milestone for the School of Public Affairs and its commitment to experiential, career-relevant education.

The simulation is being led by Dr. Madison Swayne, city planning faculty member, and is open to students in city planning and related fields. UrbanPlan also strengthens ties between SDSU and the broader community by engaging local professionals and highlighting the complex tradeoffs involved in shaping equitable and sustainable cities.

Students interested in participating should contact Dr. Madison Swayne for more information.
