Dr. Michael Braun is a Lecturer of Public Affairs and Criminal Justice and Inaugural Fellow of the Center for Transformative Justice at San Diego State University. He received his Ph.D. in Criminology, Law & Society from the University of California, Irvine in 2013. Dr. Braun also serves on SDSU’s Institutional Review Board as a prisoner representative and is Coordinator for Project Rebound at SDSU—Imperial Valley. He is the Inside/Out College Program & Educational Services Coordinator for the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office and a Professional Expert for Imperial Valley College directing their Restorative Justice Projects and post-secondary education transfer degrees within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. His research focuses on deeply traumatized populations, including residents and the people working with them, in prisons and jails. His current projects involve higher education best practices for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. Most of his time and attention are devoted to raising his two children at home who are constant reminders of his own limitations and human potential.
