Capstone Students Built a Mapping Tool for Mitigation in Public Defense Cases
The “RANJE” Mitigation Mapping Program is a neighborhood-based profile map containing several factors to facilitate mitigation for the Alternate Public Defender's Office. The main objective was to create a time-saving and efficient program depicting specific factors the defense attorney can utilize while working with a client. These factors can create a story for a client and illustrate a better understanding of their personal background and how it led to the actions committed. Through their analysis of mitigation literature, top mitigating factors were assessed to include medical care, criminal activity, poverty level, education level, and environmental pollution in each neighborhood. RANJE is a take on scope/distance related to the mapping tool they're building. It is the initial of all the team member's first names.
