Spring 2026 IIG Event Series: Ideas in Action

This spring, SDSU’s Institute for Innovative Governance (IIG) presents a dynamic event series exploring pressing public issues through art, scholarship, and policy dialogue. From a Screening Circle on homelessness and media, to expert talks on political corruption, civic legibility, and continuity case management, the series brings scholars, practitioners, and community members together for timely, solutions-focused conversations.
Screening Circle event titled “Expanding the Circle of Solidarity: Policy Failures and Crimes Against the Poor – And How To Do Better,” featuring David Stoesz and Marie Bouassi, Monday, March 9, 5–7 p.m., Montezuma Hall, hosted by SDSU Institute for Innovative Governance and School of Journalism and Media Studies.

Encampment sweeps are frequently justified as necessary for public order or safety, yet growing evidence shows that these actions disrupt survival networks, destroy essential belongings, interrupt medical care, and increase vulnerability for those already at greatest risk. This JMS - IIG Screening Circle will explore the power of art and media to look beyond policy rhetoric and confront the real-world impacts of criminalizing poverty.
