Recognizing Excellence: MPA Student Monique Contreras Honored by UC Irvine Police Department

MPA student Monique Contreras has been recognized as the UC Irvine Police Department’s Professional Staff of the Year, an award honoring employees who demonstrate exceptional performance, outstanding service, and strong community relationships.
As a property and evidence analyst and court liaison, Contreras played a key role in securing IACLEA accreditation, exceeding 29 rigorous standards in evidence management. She restructured the firearms destruction process, developed detailed audit procedures, enhanced evidence integrity through bi-monthly audits, and completed annual reviews of over 3,000 items.
Her efforts in securing an Orange County grant for the Prop 69 DNA program will provide UCIPD with advanced forensic equipment, improving evidence preservation and processing. As a court liaison, she efficiently manages subpoenas, discovery requests, and case coordination with legal teams.
Beyond her professional achievements, Monique’s teamwork and positivity make a lasting impact. Whether assisting colleagues, organizing department events, or contributing to workplace morale, she embodies the leadership and dedication valued in SDSU’s MPA program.
