This year, we are honored to recognize emeritus professor Lou Rea, who is celebrating an incredible 50 years of service at San Diego State University.

Dr. Rea joined the faculty in 1975 as a Tenure/Tenure-Track City Planning faculty member, where he taught classes in City Planning, Public Administration and Criminal Justice who also taught numerous classes in Public Administration and Criminal Justice. In 1983, he was appointed School Director, a position he held for nearly 25 years.

Now, 50 years later, Dr. Rea continues to serve the school part-time as a lecturer.

An experienced researcher and consultant, Dr. Rea has conducted numerous surveys and focus groups for municipal jurisdictions and private businesses, with many projects focusing on transportation and water management for both public and private agencies. In recognition of his significant contributions to the San Diego region, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors designated May 6, 2006, as "Louis M. Rea Day."

Lou is a gentle soul with a fun sense of humor, always bringing a smile to those around him.  He has a nickname for nearly everyone and has been a true role model to faculty, staff, and students alike, inspiring all with his kindness and wit.  As Director, Lou always had the school's best interest at heart, serving as a fair and quiet leader.  His commitment to the School knows no boundaries, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication and care.
