Mario Orso

Bio

As the CEO of SANDAG, Mario Orso brings more than 30 years of experience and passion in transportation planning experience and leads the agency to deliver more than 200 projects across the San Diego region that improve mobility, equity, safety, and our economy.

Mario oversees the agency’s $1.2 billion annual budget, implements policies set by its Board of Directors, and leads a staff of more than 400 professionals who plan, implement, and build regional solutions.

Prior to joining SANDAG in 2024, Mario held several leadership positions with Caltrans District 11 in San Diego and Imperial counties and served as the Acting Caltrans District 12 Director in Orange County.
