Bio

My name is Raunel Zavala. I have been working in public service for over ten years. Seven of those years I spent working for the County of Santa Cruz Human Services Department, where I last worked as a Benefits Representative Supervisor managing a team of nine representatives working to establish assistance programs for low-income adults and families.

I currently work as a Senior Administrative Analyst for the City of Watsonville as part of the City Manager’s team. I am responsible for the creation and implementation of the City’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. As such, I develop a broad range of safety programs and coordinate their respective training throughout the City. Another part of my work involves the management of various contracts and leases for a broad range of City projects. This among the many other duties that come from working in a small office that oversees the day-to-day operations of all city departments and staff.

My goal is to continue growing my public service career and the impact I have on my community. I believe the completion of SDSU’s MPA program will provide me with valuable skills needed to bring about that growth. I currently hold an undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from San Jose State University. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking my dog out for a walk, going to concerts and playing guitar.
