Richard A. Parker, Ph.D. is an Emeritus faculty member in the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University where he teaches graduate courses in statistics, survey research, urban economic development and finance. He has taught at San Diego State since 1985. Dr. Parker is a graduate of Brown University and the University of California at Berkeley. He possesses degrees in Business Administration from those institutions (B.S.-1969 and MBA-1971), a graduate degree in City Planning (MCP) from San Diego State University-1984, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from UCLA and Pacific Western University-1986. Dr. Parker specializes in sample survey research and financial analysis for various governmental agencies and market research and fiscal impact analysis for retail, commercial, residential, and recreational development. He is the co-author (with Dr. Louis M. Rea) of a successful textbook, Designing and Conducting Survey Research (originally published in 1992, with a second edition in 1997 third edition in 2005 and fourth edition in 2014). He has been awarded the Bernays Mark of Merit for Special Purpose Publications and was named as one of the 50 distinguished alumni from San Diego State University’s School of Public Affairs. Dr. Parker has testified as an expert witness in courts of law and before various State of California legislative committees, city councils and county boards of supervisors on several occasions concerning sampling and survey research. He has also appeared on many television and radio interview programs.
