Bio
My name is Antonio Ortega and I am an experienced and dedicated executive level manager with over 16 years of service in the public sector. In my current role as Governmental Affairs and Communications Officer for the Imperial Irrigation District, the nation’s largest irrigation district and California’s third largest public power provider, I am responsible for coordinating the district’s government affairs and communications programs. This role requires my engagement with governmental as well as non-governmental entities and the general public. To this end, I manage a team of six talented individuals and oversee an annual budget of nearly $2.4 million.
Prior to joining the District, I spent time in the California State Legislature where I worked directly with policymakers and helped shape public policy. I had the opportunity to work and learn from Senator Abel Maldonado, Assemblymember Hector De La Torre and Assemblymemeber Manuel Perez. I earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of California, Riverside and graduated in 2006. Now, I look forward to furthering my professional development while confronting head on the most pressing public policy challenges of tomorrow, through SDSU’s Masters of Public Administration.
