Bryce Lowry

Bio

Bryce Lowery is a Visiting Scholar in the Institute of Innovative Governance in the School of Public Affairs at San Diego State University and Associate Professor of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design at the University of Oklahoma. He teaches courses on urban design, planning theory, geographic information systems (GIS), and public health and the built environment.

His research focuses on physical determinants of neighborhood well-being as well as land use policies that aim to improve community health. He is particularly interested in access to food, exposure to outdoor advertising, and exposure to retail cannabis in neighborhoods. His research appears in Applied Geography, the American Journal of Public Health, Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design, the Interdisciplinary Journal of Wayfinding and Signage, the Journal of the American Planning Association, the Journal of Planning History, and Substance Use and Misuse, Preventing Chronic Disease, among others.

He earned undergraduate degrees in environmental studies and economics from the University of Southern California, a Master of Science from the University of Michigan in environmental policy, a Master of Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, and a PhD in urban and spatial planning from the University of Southern California.
