Nonprofit Organizations and Government Agencies met with School of Public Affairs' Students
On March 8th and March 15th, San Diego State University hosted visits from 18 diverse government and nonprofit organizations, all eager to engage with the School of Public Affairs (SPA) undergraduate student body. Among them were law enforcement agencies, restorative justice organizations, litigation agencies, nonprofit entities, and assemblymember offices.
The objective was to acquaint students with the broad spectrum of internship opportunities available within the field of Public Affairs.
Each internship information session drew approximately 50 students, composed of undergraduate Criminal Justice and Public Administration majors. During these sessions, students had the unique opportunity to interact directly with representatives from various organizations to inquire about internship opportunities and potential full-time positions. This direct engagement facilitated a deeper understanding of available opportunities and helped students make more informed decisions regarding their future careers.
These sessions were a prelude to the summer internship course for seniors. In this course, students are placed within government agencies or nonprofit organizations, allowing them to gain hands-on experience directly relevant to their academic pursuits. Over the course of a semester, participants acquire practical work skills, nurture valuable networking connections, and make meaningful contributions to their assigned organizations. These engaging sessions and the subsequent internships offer invaluable opportunities for students to gain practical experience, develop essential skills, and pave the way for successful careers in Public Affairs.
