My name is Mario Sevilla and I am an experienced journalist and communications leader. Throughout my news career, I launched digital transformation efforts and content strategies for publishing start-ups and established local and national news organizations. I have trained teams to perform at a high level in various disciplines including news and social media strategies, multimedia storytelling, marketing and sales, and community outreach. Most recently at ABC 10News San Diego, I led technical innovation, newsroom research, and reporting to create San Diego County's first interactive COVID-19 dashboard. As a multimedia and data journalist, my teams achieved award-winning investigations, in-depth reporting on California's deadly wildfires, documented protests at the street level, and ensured our community balanced coverage of our elections.

Today, I serve in SDSU’s Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs as Managing Editor and Content Strategist. In my role, I am responsible for SDSU’s editorial voice and overseeing all content for NewsCenter.

I received my bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University. I am excited about SDSU's MPA program. My goal is to advance my analytical abilities and develop expertise in policymaking. When I'm not working or studying, I enjoy spending time with my family, following San Francisco Bay Area sports, tinkering with technology, and playing video games.
